What is calligraphy to me?

Calligraphy is one way to spend QUALITY TIME after paid work and everyday chores.
A pleasant tactile experience as a change from working in front of the computer screen — creating something with your hands, for real.

Calligraphy is a form of THERAPY
In a difficult time, learning and practicing calligraphy has given me a certain anchor, a direction to strive toward and set my worries aside. Meditative moments spent in silence, focusing on each letter one by one, while the rest of the world around you seems to disappear.

Calligraphy is ART
With its long history, diverse styles, and variety of materials and tools, calligraphy offers endless possibilities to explore the movement of a line on paper and through time, to play with colour and composition, to sense the intersection of literature and art, and to express oneself through both text and visuals.

Calligraphy is a PASSION
The thrill of victory when even a single letter from the alphabet you’re learning finally starts to settle into your hand. The excitement and delight of experimenting with new colours and papers, nibs, brushes, and techniques. I’m convinced that you can’t truly do calligraphy without dedication and being wholeheartedly present in the process. Therefore, it could be said that the selection of my calligraphic works presented in this portfolio has been feathered from the heart.
